Untitled Still Life circa 1989 (watercolor on sketch paper)

I found another picture from that art class I took at the community college!  Like I said in my last post of the art I did that semester, I really didn't like ANYTHING that I did for that class. The teacher was a really harsh jerk instead of nurturing or encouraging and my lack of enthusiasm towards him showed in the work I did for the class. I still have this piece (and the others) in storage in my friends garage in Arizona. I guess I keep it just because I was and still am challenged by watercolor and have this as a reminder.

This drawing is another one from college. Honestly, most of the projects for my art class in college were utter and complete crap. I think I only got a C in the class. Funny how I could be in advanced art in high school and blossom so wonderfully with that teacher and get As and Bs but be so at odds with the community college art teacher!

"Perspective" circa 1989 (watercolor on paper)

When I graduated from high school I wasn't sure what I wanted to be when I grew up. The intellectual and practical side leaned towards engineering but I also still had a passion for art so I took one art class the first semester of college. Because I was on a Pell grant and wasn't working, I had to drop the art since I couldn't afford the supplies out of pocket (my Pell grant barely covered tuition back then). This is the first project I did for that class. It's not a very good digital image because it is a photograph with a cheap camera instead of a scan, but I'm glad to have it.

"Eleanor" circa 1986 (colored pencil on grey sketch paper)

I am very glad to still have images of my old high school projects. This was a sketch of a classmate in my advanced art class. This picture is interesting to me because normally Eleanor wore all black most days and the day that it was her turn to be the sketch model, she wore a red and white striped sweater. There are a lot of parts to this sketch that bothered me back when I drew it, but I have come to appreciate the imperfections over the years.

Remember the Pink Ladies I posted last week? Well a few years later I did the same thing with some old lipstick and blush and this is the result. Same story as before, I didn't want to waste old make up! ^_^

"Pink Ladies" circa 1992 (repurposed make-up on newsprint sketch paper)

I wish I had better scans of these drawings/paintings. I like these because I did them with left over old lipstick, blush, and eye shadow. I don't wear make up often and yet still seemed to get at least one kit every Christmas back in the day. I hate wasting things so I figured this would be a much better fate for all this old make up rather than just put it in the trash! ^_^
